Healing Through Nature, Connection, and Purpose
At Heroes Healing Homestead, we believe nature is a profound teacher and healer. Immersion in the land—through hands-on work, wilderness journeys, and mindful connection—restores mental and emotional well-being.
Programs Rooted in Nature
Our offerings invite both veterans and young adults to step away from daily pressures and rediscover balance in the natural world. Through:
-
Wilderness immersion in the Alaskan landscape
-
Hands-on homesteading practices that ground and focus the mind
-
Community and shared purpose that foster belonging and resilience
Guided by Lived Wisdom
Our work is led by Atz Kilcher, a Vietnam veteran who has dedicated his life to supporting fellow servicemen and women. In 2024, Atz partnered with Open Circle to expand this vision—creating nature-based, purpose-driven adventures that inspire connection, renewal, and courage.
A Research-Backed Approach
Together, Atz and Open Circle bring a unique blend of lived experience, professional expertise, and specialized training. Our programs integrate:
-
Ancient wisdom traditions
-
Eco-psychology and developmental psychology
-
Neuroscience and leadership development
Through our collaboration with the University of Utah Cognitive Center, we measure outcomes that show enduring gains in resilience, adaptability, and well-being.
Coming in 2026: Wayfinders
Expanding this legacy, Wayfinders is an intergenerational wilderness journey that unites veterans and young adults.
Designed for those who have carried too much, too soon, Wayfinders nurtures:
-
Identity and gratitude
-
Courage and service
-
Connection to self, community, and nature
The Healing Power of Wilderness
Set in the wild beauty of Alaska, our programs harness nature’s proven ability to:
-
Ease anxiety
-
Lift mood
-
Restore peace and clarity
